BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team narrowly missed adding a second victory to its Northeast Conference (NEC) record, losing a 2-1 overtime decision to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Sunday afternoon at LIU Field.
Junior
Marian Awad put LIU ahead in dramatic fashion in the 37th minute. The third-year midfielder placed a 25 yard free kick over the outstretched arms of FDU keeper Amanda Fitzgerald and under the crossbar to record her first goal of the season.
The Knights would match the Blackbirds in the 59th minute on a wide, sideline cross from the right side and a header from Elma Kolenovic.
Both teams had viable opportunities after the match was tied but came up short as fatigue, the elements and the physical nature of the contest took their toll.
In the end, FDU prevailed after a through ball set up Viktorija Miseljic in front of goal. Miiseljic's first shot slipped past junior goalkeeper
Aline Allmann and hit the post, but Allmann couldn't get to the wide rebound first and Miiseljic gathered the ball tapped home the game winner.
