Petty-Evans posted the first double-double of the season for the Blackbirds (2-1) with career and game highs of 26 points (8-of-16; career-high 6 three-pointers) and ten rebounds while Johnson upped her best marks for the third straight game with 22 points (including four three-pointers) and six rebounds. Redshirt junior Drew Winter once again paced the team in the assist category with a career-high seven assists. Outside of a 3-0 run by UMBC (1-3) in the first minute and a half of action, the Blackbirds were in control of the game in what was easily the team's best performance of the young season. A paint score by senior DeAngelique Waithe sparked a nearly five minute, 12-0 response to the Retrievers' opening three-pointer. LIU ended the first quarter with a nine-point lead (17-8) and extended it to double figures for the first time with two free throws at the 8:41 mark of the second by freshman Tia Montagne. The Blackbirds took a ten-point lead (30-20) into the locker room at halftime after holding a 13-12 edge in the second quarter and kept their advantage at 13 points or more the rest of the game once Johnson nailed a three ten seconds into the second half. Johnson's triple started a 13-2 third quarter run that ended with the second of Petty-Evans' three three-pointers in the period giving LIU its biggest lead of the night (21). OTHER NOTES History doesn't have to look far to see the last time Blackbirds matched the scoring efforts of Petty-Evans and Johnson. The last pair of teammates to score 20+ points in the same game were Aja Boyd (28) and Shanovia Dove (21) in last year's season finale at Wagner on February 27. Tonight's win marked the first time LIU has won back-to-back games since January 2 & 4 of 2016 at Mount Saint Mary's (61-51) and Central Connecticut (59-45). LIU posted 16 assists and 14 turnovers, finishing in the positive in that ratio for the second straight game. The last time LIU had at least two straight contests with more assists than turnovers was a three-game stretch from February 20-27, 2012. NEXT UP LIU will continue its current road schedule with a trip to Army West Point on Monday, November 20 at 7 p.m. Players Mentioned Bio DeAngelique Waithe #10 F 6' 0" Sr. Bio Drew Winter #11 G 5' 7" R-Jr. Bio Jeydah Johnson #0 G 5' 10" Fr.
