Women's Basketball Drops Home Contest To Navy

BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team closed its non-conference schedule with a 79-47 home loss to the Navy Midshipmen Wednesday evening at the Steinberg Wellness Center.

LIU (4-7) was led by freshman Jeydah Johnson, who reached double figures for the seventh time in 11 games after putting up a team-high 17 points. Graduate transfer Denisha Petty-Evans added 13 points for the Blackbirds and extended her season-opening double-figure scoring streak to 11 games.

The Blackbirds opened the night by scoring the game's first four points on a pair of Petty-Evans free throws and a post score by senior DeAngelique Waithe. Navy (10-1) would take control of the game with a 10-1 run and would go into the second period with a 15-point lead (30-15).

LIU would chip away at the Mids' lead in the second, with Johnson scoring seven of her 12 first-half points in the period to help the Blackbirds pull within seven (38-31) with less than two minutes left in the half. Navy would rip off seven points to close the half up 14 (45-31) and remained up by at least that much the rest of the way.
