BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After lead for most of the first half, the LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team saw the lead slip away from them in a strong second half by the visiting Fairleigh Dickinson Knights. In the end, the Knights took the win, 67-54, to move LIU to 4-20 on the season, and 3-10 in Northeast Conference action.

Senior Shanovia Dove, who led all players with 16 points, put LIU up first, with her three pointer at 8:34. Dove scored eight points of what would end up being a 10-2 run by the Blackbirds, giving the home team the lead with 3:36 to play in the first quarter. FDU would close the lead to just one point at the end of the quarter, but freshman Aja Boyd hit three free throws to open the second quarter and put the Blackbirds back on top, 16-12 with 6:27 to play. Two minutes later, junior DeAngelique Waithe had a layup and made a free throw that would push LIU's lead to 19-16 with 4:42 on the clock.

The Knights would continue to chip away, and tied the game up twice in the second period. In the final two minutes of that period, however, FDU went on a 10-2 run that would give the visiting team the lead at the half, 29-23, and in the game for good.

Fairleigh Dickinson would use another 11-5 run in the second half to take a 19 point with 4:45 to play, 57-38. But the Blackbirds would keep fighting, and closed the gap to single digits in the final minute of play.

Boyd helped spark the run with a layup at 4:30. Dove and sophomore Drew Winter (who finished the game with a career-high six assists) both hit jumpers, while freshman Seneca Richards had one of her three three-pointers with 1:17 to play. Dove added a three with 39 seconds to play that put LIU within nine, 61-52, but the Knights finished the game going 6-for-6 from the free throw line to take the win, 67-54.

Up next, the Blackbirds travel north to take on Bryant, Monday, February 13 at 7 p.m. in the Chace Athletic Center.
