BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team could not stop Robert Morris Monday night in the Steinberg Wellness Center, as the Colonials beat the Blackbirds, 64-54, for their sixth-straight Northeast Conference win. Senior

The Blackbirds came out strong in the home game, setting the tone with a three pointer from Dove on the first possession. From there, Dove hit a jumper and freshman
Aja Boyd hit two free throws and made a layup at 6:09 to put LIU up, 9-4. Another three from Dove would widen the lead to 12-6 just four minutes later, but RMU would hit a jumper as the buzzer sounded to come out of the first period having closed the lead to just one point, 15-14. Robert Morris then pulled ahead in the second quarter, and closed the period on an 8-2 run that would give the visiting team a 33-22 lead at the halftime break.
LIU started the second half on a strong note once more, using a jumper from
Aja Boyd and another three from Dove to help close the lead to just six points, 35-29 at 5:22. The Blackbirds would close the lead even further as the quarter ran down. In the final three minutes, LIU put together an 8-0 run, including a three-point play from freshman
Gabrielle Caponegro, that would help the home team come within four points, 41-37 at the start of the fourth quarter. Dove hit another jumper with 4:56 left to play in the contest that would make it 47-43, but RMU was perfect from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, keep it at least at a two-possession difference for the remainder of the contest.
