After playing the first 19 contests without recording a shutout, the Blackbirds (12-10) have blanked the opposition in two of its last three games and won three in a row in the process. LIU scored in every inning it batted against Brown (11-9), starting the game with clutch two-out offense. Junior Angie Vazquez put LIU on the board in the first by belting a two-run home run off her second pitch and fellow junior Victoria Zamora followed suit in the second with an RBI double. Vazquez struck again in the third, bringing another runner home after reaching on a Brown error to make the score 4-0. Junior Gina Bond added to the lead on LIU's next at-bat with an RBI single to left field. The fifth inning was the Blackbirds' largest of the game, with junior Nereyda Gutierrez, sophomore Samantha Offenback and senior Kylie Mulholland accounting for the team's final three runs. Junior Erynn Sobieski (7-3) only allowed five hits in five innings en route to LIU's second shutout win in as many days. Vazquez led the way for LIU with three RBI in a 1-for-3 afternoon while three other Blackbirds had two hits each - freshman Angie Rizzi (2-for-2), Bond (2-for-2), and Offenback (2-for-3). NEXT UP LIU will end its stay at FAU with an 11:15 am matchup against Florida International on Sunday, March 12.
