BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn softball team finished the final day of its first homestand of the season by splitting its two games on Sunday, defeating Binghamton University, 12-4 in 6 innings and falling to Princeton University, 4-1.

GAME 1: LIU 12, BINGHAMTON 4 (F/6)
Sophomore Schae Dickson's solo home run in the bottom of the second gave the Blackbirds their first advantage but Binghamton retaliated in the fifth inning with four two-out scores that gave the Bearcats a bit of separation.

After that, the Blackbirds started to go on a tear.

LIU rattled off eleven runs on ten hits beginning in the bottom of the fifth, turning a three-run deficit into an eight-run, mercy shortened victory. Freshman Angie Rizzi and juniors Neddie Gutierrez & Gina Bond got the first three runs of the fifth to score for LIU before Dickson struck again with a second home run, a three-run blast that put the Blackbirds up 7-1.

The sixth was more of the same, as five more runs crossed home plate on a single from Bond and doubles from Dickson, sophomore Samantha Offenback and senior Kylie Mulholland.

Dickson's spectacular stat line (3-for-4, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 3 runs) lead the way for a Blackbird team that saw eight players record a hit and four log two or more in the contest. Freshman Haley Irvis earned her first career victory by going 5.0 innings, striking out three batters and allowing four runs on five hits.

GAME 2: LIU 1, PRINCETON 4
The final game of the day began with a home run, but unfortunately it came from the visiting Tigers in the first inning. Princeton would score once in the first, second, sixth and seventh innings but LIU nearly erased the disadvantage in the bottom of the seventh.

After a lead-off out from Mulholland, the Blackbirds saw the next three batters reach on walks and a hit by pitch. By the time LIU was on the brink of breaking through, her show would find its way back into the conversation. Rizzi was able to get one run to score with the bases loaded but couldn't produce any others.
