BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- In its final non-conference home contest of the season, the LIU Brooklyn softball team suffered a 7-3 loss to the St. John's Red Storm Wednesday afternoon at LIU Field. 

Junior Angie Vazquez turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead with a full count, two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Vazquez's blast was her third of the season and the Blackbirds' 29th of the year. 

Unfortunately, the Blackbirds could not build off of Vazquez's efforts and allowed the Red Storm to score six unanswered runs over the next six innings. St. John's tied the game in the second inning off a LIU fielding error and took the lead for good with a three-run fifth. 

LIU went into the bottom of the seventh facing a 7-2 deficit before taking its shot at a rally. Sophomore Samantha Offenback, playing in her first game since April 2, led off the inning with with a solo home run to make the score 7-3. Fellow second year Evie Claussell reached on a single before being put out on senior Kayla Gloady's fielder's choice. Junior Victoria Zamora gave LIU runners on first and second with one out but the Blackbirds' next two batters were retired to end the game. 

Offenback went 2-for-3 and Vazquez hit 1-for-3 to lead LIU on the afternoon.
