MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. --- LIU Brooklyn Softball opened its two-day slate versus the Northeast Conference's (NEC) Pennsylvania schools with a doubleheader split against Robert Morris Sunday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex. The Blackbirds conceded the first game of the day, 3-1, before taking the second game, 8-2.

GAME 1: LIU 1, RMU 3
Junior Nereyda Gutierrez gave LIU an early 1-0 lead with a double down the right field line that drove in freshman Angie Rizzi. Gutierrez's scoring hit was her 17th RBI and third double of the season.

Robert Morris scored a pair of runs in the second inning off a home run and RBI single and added an insurance run in the third on an RBI double.

Junior Erynn Sobieski was solid during her outing, going six innings, striking out four, and only walking one batter. However, the Blackbirds were unable to make up the three runs the Colonials produced.

GAME 2: LIU 8, RMU 2
The Blackbirds bounced back in Game 2 in resounding fashion, putting together its 11th game of the year with eight runs or more. Robert Morris scored first on a LIU error in the second inning but the Blackbirds came back in the fourth with five runs of their own.

Sophomore Schae Dickson hit an infield single to the pitcher to bring home junior Victoria Zamora and tie the game at 1-1. Senior Kylie Mulholland added the rest of the offense in the inning with her second home run of the season, a grand slam that game LIU a 5-1 advantage. After a fourth inning RBI double added a run to the Colonials' tally, LIU put three more runs on the board with singles from juniors Gina Bond and Angie Vazquez.

Seven Blackbirds contributed to the team's 11 hits, led by Zamora's 3-for-4 day. Bond and Vazquez both went 2-for-4 and Mulholland led the other players with a hit apiece.

Sophomore Tallie Woodson won her sixth game of the season by recording a complete game and only allowing one earned run in her seven innings of action.
