DETROIT, Mich. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team fell on the road to Detroit Mercy Sunday afternoon, 1-0. The Titans scored early in the game, and were able to hold off the Blackbirds' attack to give LIU its second loss of the season.
Detroit scored just four minutes into the contest, when Tyler Moorman moved through the defense and fired a shot to the top of the net over LIU's
Cole Palmer to make it 1-0.
The two teams would go back and forth from there. Junior
Rasmus Hansen had a shot that went wide, and ten minutes later, Palmer made a save to keep the lead to one. Senior
Naeem Charles would also have a shot go wide later in the first half, but neither team would score again before the break.
LIU would come out firing in the second half, as junior
Romario Guscott had a shot that UDM's goalie would save. Guscott would have another shot later in the half that was blocked, and sophomore
Anthony Baltazar had a shot that was high in the 74
th minute.
Sophomore Zack Peterson had a shot with eight minutes left that the goalie saved, and Charles had a header shot with just over two minutes left that hit the post. Detroit would keep the pressure on in the final minutes, and escaped the period with the lead intact, taking the win, 1-0.
Palmer and senior
Michael Ramsey combined to make three saves for LIU in net.
Up next, the Blackbirds head south to take on two North Carolina games, taking on NC State, September 1 and Appalachian State, September 3.
