Peters Reaches Milestone In Women's Soccer Loss to Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. --- Redshirt senior Jenn Peters moved into sole possession of sixth place on the LIU Brooklyn women's soccer career goals list in the Blackbirds' 2-1 overtime loss to Iona College Sunday afternoon at Mazzella Field.

The Slate Hill native took advantage of a Iona defensive miscue in the 53rd minute and tied the contest at 1-1 with a strike to the lower left corner. The score gave Peters 17 goals in her career, breaking a tie with former teammate Madison Gomez for sixth place in the LIU record books.

Unfortunately, the milestone by Peters would be overshadowed by the host Gaels in overtime as Iona netted the golden goal with 56 seconds remaining in the extra period.

LIU played Iona fairly even, nearly taking the same amount of shots (14 to 15) and corner kicks (four to seven) while forcing the Gaels to make twice as many saves (six to three). Peters led all players with four shots and four shots on goal.

Senior Erin Harbison earned her first start of the season in goal and played the first half of the game while freshman Megan Virgin made her first career performance by relieving Harbison for the second half and overtime.
