RICHMOND, Va. – The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team fell to Virginia Commonwealth University Sunday afternoon, 9-1.
The Rams opened scoring in the first half with a goal at the 10:30 mark. In the next minute, the home team would add two more goals to widen the lead to 3-0. VCU would add a fourth in the 18
th minute, and then added two more goals in the 26
th and 30
th minute, taking a 6-0 lead into halftime.
The Blackbirds would slow the VCU offense in the second half, reducing the number of shots taken. VCU would score three more times, to widen the gap to 9-0 before getting on the board. Freshman
Eva Scholten would take two shots in the second half for LIU, and freshman
Eveline Gielisse would score the lone goal for the Blackbirds. LIU would have a penalty corner in the 70
th minute. Sophomore
Brooke McGinley took the corner, and Gielisse would convert it to put LIU on the board, 9-1.

Molly Jannell had six saves in net in 38 minutes of action, while freshman
Bridget Elison had two saves in 30 minutes of action.
