BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team fell to Towson University in its first game on LIU Field this season, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Tigers on a sunny and hot Sunday afternoon.

Towson put the pressure on right away as the game started, scoring a goal off a penalty corner just under three minutes into the contest. The Tigers continued the offensive onslaught early on, with two more shots in the first ten minutes, and two more penalty corners. Sophomore goalie Molly Jannell would make two saves, and LIU's defense would block some shots, but the Tigers would get one more past at the 11:35 mark. A flurry in front of the net ended with Towson's Beira Ho sneaking a ball into the right corner, and the visiting team was up, 2-0.

LIU would get several shots off in the first half, as Adena Gordon, Eveline Gielisse, Madi Cook, Eva Scholten and Jenna Chrabolowski all had attempts at the goal that were blocked or saved by Towson's defense.

The second half saw a marked improvement in LIU's play, as the Blackbirds were able to limit errors, fouls and penalty corners for the Tigers in the second half, and come up with more solid offensive opportunities.

But the Tigers were able to finish twice more, to solidify the lead. Towson would score two goals in just two minutes, to widen the gap to 4-0 with just seven minutes left to play. The Blackbirds would continue to press for the final minutes of action, but couldn't get another shot off, and move to 0-9 with the loss.

Up next, LIU begins MAAC play, hosting Fairfield, Friday, September 29 on LIU Field at 4 p.m.
