PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For the second time this season, the LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team saw a contest go to the double overtime period, as the Blackbirds tied with La Salle Tuesday night on the road, 1-1. The Blackbirds led until the 89
th minute, when a last second goal by the home team forced the extra periods.
The Blackbirds were able to get on the board first in the contest, scoring a goal in the 29
th minute. After a La Salle foul was called in the box,
Rasmus Hansen took the penalty kick. The junior forward would convert the opportunity, putting the Blackbirds up, 1-0.
Sophomore
Giuseppe Barone had another shot for LIU in the 42
nd minute, but the La Salle keeper made the stop. Freshman
Anthony Sciola had the start in net for LIU, and would keep the game scoreless through the break, keeping LIU up, 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, junior Filip Nordstrom would have a shot on net for LIU just six minutes in, but it was again stopped by the Explorer keeper. Seven minutes later, sophomore
Marius Koss would have another shot saved, and in the 65
th minute, junior
Naeem Charles had a shot blocked.
La Salle would have a flurry of shots later in the half, including one that Sciola would save in the 85
th minute, but with just 41 seconds to go, the home team would get a ball in the back of the net. Beating the keeper to a ball, La Salle's Johnny Ciarlante would score inside the near post, tying the score up 1-1, as time ran down.
In the first overtime, La Salle would get a header and a shot off, but neither would be converted, and the two teams went to a second overtime. In that period, LIU would have two corner kicks and a late shot by
Romario Guscott but couldn't score, and the time would wind down with the two teams locked in a 1-1 tie.
Sciola finished the game with four saves, while Barone had two shots and Hansen finished with LIU's lone goal.
