LIU's victory over its borough neighbors was the Blackbirds' 26th consecutive win in the all-time series, tying its current run over Saint Francis U for the program's longest active streak versus one opponent. Junior Viktoria Fink led all players with 13 kills and added a team-high 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the year and third in a row. Junior Nina Petranovic notched ten kills and was one dig shy of her team-leading eighth double-double with nine digs on the night. Sophomore Amanda Hubbard paced the match with 31 assists, her sixth match with 30 or more. LIU got out to a 1-0 match lead with a wire-to-wire first set victory. After a second tie at 3-3, the Blackbirds started to separate from the Terriers, taking a seven-point edge (12-5) after forcing a SFBK attack error. St. Francis managed to trim LIU's lead to three (17-14) but the Blackbirds proved to be too strong, ending the match by outscoring the Terriers 8-5 the rest of the way. The home team found themselves in a more competitive fight during the second set as the Terriers looked to match the Blackbirds' first set performance. Outside of leading for a couple of early rallies, SFBK stayed ahead of LIU until an 8-1 run turned a 14-11 deficit into a 19-15 lead for the Blackbirds. St. Francis battled back with a 8-3 run of their own to take a 23-22 lead. However, instead of tying the match, a Terrier service error, a Petranovic ace and a Fink kill gave the Blackbirds a 2-0 advantage. With both teams having finally found their groove, the third saw LIU and St. Francis log a total of 12 ties and two lead changes. The final stalemate came at 17-17 after Petranovic converted on an attack. Including that point, LIU scored four of the next six points to take a 21-18 lead. An LIU service error moved the Terriers back within two points before the Blackbirds scored the final four points in succession to close things out. NEXT UP LIU will wrap up its three-match home slate next week with contests against Robert Morris on Friday, October 6 at 6 p.m. and versus Saint Francis U. on Saturday, October 7 at 4 p.m. Players Mentioned Bio Viktoria Fink #17 OH 5' 10" Jr. Bio Amanda Hubbard #27 S 5' 10" So.
