BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team closed out the month of January with a 61-49 loss to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Monday evening at the Steinberg Wellness Center.

DeAngelique Waithe led all scorers with a new career high of 24 points and added ten rebounds to post her seventh double-double of the year and eighth of her career. Graduate transfer

Seneca Richards each chipped in nine points for the Blackbirds (8-12, 4-5 NEC).
LIU took a quick 3-0 lead on FDU (13-7, 5-4 NEC) on a Waithe basketball and free throw but had its lead erased after the Knights went on a four-minute 9-2 run. The Blackbirds kept the game close as the quarter ended (trailed 14-12) and pulled even closer by halftime (trailed 25-24).
The deciding factor in the game proved to be the third quarter as FDU outscored LIU 21-8, including a 17-2 burst that took up the first seven minutes of the period.
LIU fought to the end, holding the Knights to their field goal percentage in the fourth quarter (22.2 percent) and outscoring the visitors 17-15.
OTHER NOTES
- Petty-Evans' defensive effort produced five steals on the night, matching her career best from December 21, 2016 against Harvard while playing for Siena.
- Redshirt junior Drew Winter dished out a game-high seven assists, marking the seventh time in 20 games this season that she has met or exceeded that threshold.

LIU will be on the road for its next two games, starting with a Saturday matinee at Mount St. Mary's on February 3. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
