BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team fell to the the NEC's top team, Central Connecticut State, 3-0, at LIU Field on Sunday to close out the home portion of the schedule. The Blackbirds will hit the road for their final two NEC games of the season over the next two weekends.
A scoreless game at halftime, CCSU (12-1-2, 6-0 NEC) senior forward Danielle Pearse broke through in the 50th minute with a shot from ten yards out for the eventual game winner. Late in the second half, Blue Devils freshman Jamie Collimore scored her first two collegiate tallies to put the game away. Senior Ashley Cavanaugh earned her ninth shut out of the season for the first place squad.
Senior Aline Allman started in goal for LIU (2-11-3, 0-4-1 NEC) and had a clean sheet in the first half with four saves. Sophomore goalkeeper
Megan Virgin made seven stops in net in the second half for the Blackbirds. Classmate
Kimberly Butland led the LIU attack with three shots, all on goal in the match.
The Blackbirds play their final two NEC contests on the road, beginning with a trip to Smithfield, R.I. to face Bryant, next Saturday, October 21 at 1 p.m.
