NEW HAVEN, Conn.— The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team dropped its Friday night matchup to Sacred Heart, 6-3 at Johnson Field. Freshman Eva van Wakeren tallied her second hat trick of the season with all three Blackbird goals in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup.

SHU would take the early 2-0 lead through the opening 22 minutes of the game. LIU would get on the board shortly after in the 24th minute on van Wakeren's first goal for the 2-1 score. The Pioneers added one more score in the 34th minute to take a 3-1 lead into the half.

The Blackbirds would answer early in the second half off of the first penalty corner opportunity as redshirt-sophomore Casey Carrigan found van Wakeren for the wide open goal to bring the deficit back to one at 3-2. SHU pushed the lead back to two on a flurry of shots in the 50th minute as junior Molly Jannell made three standout saves but was unable to corral the fourth and final shot from the home team.

The Pioneers tallied two more goals in the 66th and 68th minute to move ahead 6-2. LIU would get its final goal of the game from van Wakeren on the penalty corner as time expired for the 6-3 final.

With her three goals on the night, van Wakeren moved into double-digit goals for the season with 11. Carrigan's second half assist was her team-leading fourth assist of the year. Jannell recorded nine saves in goal for the Blackbirds.
