BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team fell to Bryant, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at LIU Field. Prior to the game, the Blackbirds honored graduating senior
Amy Reid as part of senior day.
LIU looked to set the tone early with several chances on goal in the Bulldogs zone but were denied by keeper Marijn Jaarsma. Bryant opened the scoring in the 21
st minute on a chip in goal by Kylie Nelson for the 1-0 favor. The Blackbirds outshot Bryant 7-4 in the opening period of play.
The Bulldogs would net its second goal of the off the penalty corner shot from Leyna Dimarco in the 47
th minute. The Blackbirds continued on the attack in the second half with three penalty corner chances but were unable to convert as Bryant defense held them off the board.
Freshman
Eva van Wakeren led LIU with five shots in the game including three strikes on goal. Classmate
Riley Lambert contributed two shots goal for the Blackbirds. Junior
Haley Ballard added her fourth defensive save of the season in the second half and goalkeeper
Molly Jannell tallied two saves in the game.
UP NEXT
The Blackbirds end the 2018 season in downtown Brooklyn on Thursday, October 25 for a 4:00 p.m. matchup against Fairfield.
