Women’s Soccer Falls in Season Finale, 2-1 to RMU

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team wrapped up their 2018 campaign with a 2-1 defeat on a rainy Saturday at Robert Morris in Northeast Conference play in Moon Township, Pa.

The Colonials (6-12, 4-4 NEC) received two goals from senior Jane Schleicher, who leads the NEC in scoring, to end their season with a .500 mark in conference play.

With the game scoreless in the first half, Schleicher hit a penalty kick in the 27th minute, as RMU went into the break 1-0. In the 78th minute a corner kick by the Blackbirds led to a scramble in the box when freshman Meredith Hill cleaned it up for her third goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1. But in the 86th minute a Colonials corner kick saw the ball end up right on Schleicher's toe for the game-winner.

Hill's third goal on the season (six points) put her in sole possession of second place in the final goal tally of the season for the Blackbirds. She took three shots in the game too, one behind the team's leading scorer, senior Marian Awad (four shots, three on goal), who concludes her four year career with 177 shots (3rd all-time), sixth in goals (16) and 10th in points (34) with her seven goals this season. Freshman defender Mia Rose Daly was the only other LIU player with multiple shots (2) in the game.

Senior goalkeeper Aline Allmann made two saves in her final appearance between the pipes for the Blackbirds, who finish up at
2-13-3 overall and 0-7-1 in the NEC.
