BRIDGEPORT, Conn.— The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team dropped its Tuesday night matchup to Fairfield, 71-43 at the Webster Bank Arena.

The Stags started off strong with a 10-3 opening favor to start the game. LIU slowly chipped away as junior Seneca Richards drained her first triple of the season at the 3:06 mark to cut the score to 12-8. A layup from freshman Brandy Thomas in the final seconds brought the score to 14-10 and capped a 7-4 run for the Blackbirds to end the quarter.

LIU continued to play well keeping the Fairfield lead to within five through the opening minutes of the second quarter. A jumper by sophomore Tia Montagne helped spark a 7-2 run by the Blackbirds with a triple from freshman Shyla Sanford tying the game up at 21-21. The Stags would close out the half on a five-point run to take a 26-21 lead into the break.

The Blackbirds would draw the first point out of the half on a made free throw from freshman Camille Gray but it was a 14-1 run by the Stags for the 35-22 advantage halfway through the third quarter.  That advantage would hold the rest of the way as Fairfield would outscore LIU 23-10 in the final period for the 71-43 final.

Thomas the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week recorded her third straight double-double with career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Sophomore Ella Vaatanen and Richards finished the game with six points each.

Up next, the Blackbirds travel to Jersey City to take on Saint Peter's on Saturday, November 16 for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
