The victory improved the Blackbirds record to 10-16 (6-9 NEC) and set a new program high for wins under third-year head coach Stephanie Del Preore. Petty-Evans shot 6-for-14 from the field, including half of the Blackbirds' six three-pointers, while Waithe connected on 7-of-12 shots. Senior Stylz Sanders was one free throw away from a perfect performance as she shot 3-for-3 from the floor and 1-for-2 at the line. After FDU (15-12, 7-9 NEC) took its only lead with the first basket of the game, LIU took control of the contest with one of its best complete efforts of the season. The Blackbirds nearly doubled up the Knights in the first quarter (17-9) and took a 40-20 lead into the halftime break. FDU's 20 points marked the fourth time this season that the Blackbirds held an opponent to 20 or fewer points in an opening half (20 at UMBC - Nov. 17; 20 vs Mount St. Mary's - Jan. 13; season-low 17 at NJIT - Nov. 29). LIU took its first double-digit lead in the opening minute of the second quarter on a three-pointer by redshirt junior Drew Winter and extended it to 20 for the first time on another triple from Petty-Evans with 5:37 left in the half. Petty-Evans' final make from distance with 3:16 remaining in the third quarter gave LIU its largest lead of the game (48-24). FDU would make a final attempt at a rally in the fourth but only trimmed the Blackbird lead to single digits with a second left in the game. OTHER NOTES Waithe set a new career-high with five steals, eclipsing her four-steal tally from the team's first game at St. Francis Brooklyn on December 29. She also matched the career-best five assist game she recorded against Wagner on January 13. Freshman Tia Montagne lead all Blackbirds with six rebounds, besting her season mark of five that she logged on four separate occasions. As a team, LIU shot a new season-high 47.1 percent from the floor (24-for-51), beating the 24-for-52 showing against SFBK on Dec. 29. The Blackbirds were also one steal shy of their season best in steals, swiping 15 balls as a collective. LIU had 16 steals against FDU in their first meeting on January 29. Petty-Evans tied her assist season-high of four assists a game after setting it against SFBK on February 17.
