Waithe's 20-point performance marked the second consecutive game she scored 20 or more, a first for her career. Her rebound tally also set a new career mark, edging out the 15 boards she grabbed against St. Francis Brooklyn on December 29. Graduate transfer Denisha Petty-Evans contributed 15 points in the win, hitting double figures in her last six games. Waithe scored the first four points of the game and LIU's first six but CCSU used a 10-2 run to take a 10-6 lead at the halfway point of the period. The Blackbirds responded by closing the quarter with nine straight points to go into the second with a 15-10 lead. The Blue Devils opened the second with a three-pointer to cut LIU's lead to two (15-13) before a 13-3 run allowed the Blackbirds to build their largest lead of the game (28-16) with 4:23 to go in the half. CCSU mirrored LIU's close to period, outscoring the Blackbirds 10-4 and netting the last seven straight to send the game to a four-point halftime score of 30-26. Five straight points by CCSU to begin the third gave the Blue Devils their first lead of the second half, 31-30 with 8:14 to go. A quick back-and-forth led to a 34-34 tie at the 7:15 mark, one of seven stalemates over the next 14 minutes. With the score knotted at 53-53 in the fourth, LIU closed the game and the regular season by going on a 10-4 run over the last three minutes to ice the victory. OTHER NOTES Waithe's double-double was the her 11th of the season, 12th of her career and second in her last three games. Junior Destoni Willock set a new season high with six points, moving past a pair of four-point outings at NJIT (November 29) and Sacred Heart (February 26). LIU moved to 3-0 when outrebounding their opponent (44-37 against CCSU) and 5-1 when their assist-to-turnover ratio is 1.0 or higher (12 assists/12 turnovers vs CCSU). Waithe blocked a career-high four shots for the fifth time this year. NEXT UP LIU will compete in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference Tournament on Wednesday, March 7.
