BROOKLYN, N.Y. - For the second time in as many games, the LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team saw their opponent even the game up late to force overtime. But Monday evening on LIU Field, the Blackbirds got the result they wanted when junior captain Marius Koss scored a gorgeous game-winner just three minutes into the first overtime period. His goal, just the second of his career, gave LIU the 2-1 win over Northeastern.

The Norway native scored on a set piece above the box in Huskies' territory, striking the ball to the top right corner of the net, floating it past NU's keeper in the 93rd minute.

Similar to Friday's draw, LIU's offense didn't get going until the second half. And similar to that game as well, it was sophomore Frederik Mathisen who would put the Blackbirds on the board. Monday, his shot was a one-touch beauty that came from well outside the box and arched to the back of the net in the 48th minute. It was his second goal in as many games, and the second goal of his career, giving LIU the 1-0 lead with 40 minutes left in regulation.

Despite outstanding saves in net by freshman Sam Ilin, Northeastern would get on the board 31 minutes later. A corner kick led to a well-placed header, and the Huskies evened it up, 1-1.

The Blackbirds had several strong shots in the second half, including two by Romario Guscott and Xavi Verdu that NU's goalie would save to keep his team in the game, and force the overtime period. But unlike Friday's double overtime slog, this time, LIU was able to end it early on. A foul by the Huskies gave Koss the chance, and he capitalized, giving the Blackbirds the 2-1 OT win, and moving their record to 1-0-1 early on in the season.

Ilin finished the day with five saves in his first collegiate start, while senior Rasmus Hansen added two shots on goal in the contest.

Up next, the Blackbirds head north to take on UNH and Vermont in their first road trip of the season, Friday, August 31 and Sunday, September 2nd.
