BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team fell in their first game on the team's southern road trip, losing 3-0 to Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro on Friday night.
Senior Aline Allmann started the game between the pipes for the Blackbirds (1-2-1), but got the brunt of an offensive attack by the Blue Raiders in the eighth minute. On the play, Middle Tennessee's Sam Debien was out ahead with the ball when Allmann came out of the box to defend as Debien made contact with the keeper. Debien was cited with a yellow card, as Allmann was down for a few minutes being attended to by the trainer. The senior carried on and even made a pair of saves before succumbing to injury in the 24th minute.
With sophomore Megan Virgin, who had her first career shutout last week, in goal for the visitors, the Blue Raiders struck immediately. In the 26th minute a Maddison Falter shot was redirected by a LIU defender right to Miya Lennon who struck the first goal of the game. Eleven minutes later, Lennon sent a cross to Hannah Tillett who scored the second goal.
Middle Tennessee went into the break leading 2-0, but Debien took a cross from Lennon and put it just out of Virgin's reach to put the game at 3-0. The Blue Raiders added a late goal in the 86th minute by Elizabeth Watts for the final score.
Allmann ended her day with three saves and Virgin had six saves over the final 66 minutes. Senior Maddie Shockley had the only shot on goal for the Blackbirds with a hard strike from just inside the box in the second half. Summer Sofer and Julianne Watts had the only other shots for LIU in the loss. Celeste Barnard earned the shutout in goal for Middle Tennessee.
