PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team capped its eight-game road swing to start the season with a loss to Providence, 8-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Friars got out to an early lead with its two first half goals coming in the opening five minutes of play. LIU fired three shots on goal in the second half but were denied by Providence goalkeeper Lydia Rice. The home team continued its run in the second scoring six goals on 12 shots on goal to take the non-conference matchup at Lennon Family Field. 

Redshirt sophomore Casey Carrigan and juniors Lauren Alburg and Olivia Dennis recorded shots on goal for LIU. Junior Molly Jannell registered seven saves in 53 minutes and sophomore Bridget Elison tallied three saves in 16 minutes of action.

The Blackbirds make the season debut at LIU Field on Friday, September 21 with a 4:00 p.m. start against Lock Haven University.
