BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team fell in its home opener, 5-0 to Lock Haven University on Friday afternoon.
The Bald Eagles jumped to the early two-goal lead in the 16
th minute, picking up both goals in a five-minute span. LIU looked to answer later in the 32
nd minute off the penalty corner as freshman
Eva van Wakeren fired the shot from the right side but was denied by Lock Haven goalkeeper Brianna DeAngelis. Lock Haven added as third goal off the penalty corner in the 34
th minute to take the 3-0 lead into the break.
LIU kicked up the offensive tempo in the second with five shots in the frame. The Bald Eagles took advantage of two penalty goals with the last score coming in the 66th minute to take the 5-0 lead. Van Wakeren and junior
Lauren Alburg both put shots on goal late for the Blackbirds looking to get on the scoreboard but were unable to get past DeAngelis.

Haley Ballard registered her first defensive save of the season in the opening half. Junior goalkeeper
Molly Jannell registered a season-high 12 saves in goal for the Blackbirds.
