BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Senior
Christoffer Bjarre Solbakken's header in the 65
th minute proved to be the difference Saturday afternoon on LIU Field, as the LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team beat La Salle, 2-1, to remain undefeated at home, and improve to 4-3-1 on the season.
Solbakken's game-winner came off a corner kick taken by junior
Giuseppe Barone, who found the senior in front of the net. His header snuck by La Salle's keeper on the right side to give the Blackbirds the go-ahead goal.
The visitors got on the board first in Saturday's contest. La Salle's Hayden Criollo would one-touch the ball off a cross to put the Explorers up, 1-0. But 14 minutes later, freshman
Michael Gianino evened it up. The rookie dribbled around three defenders and La Salle's keeper, poking it in from right in from of the net in the 34
th minute to make it 1-1. Junior captain
Marius Koss had an assist on the goal that got LIU on the board.
The Explorers would keep the pressure on, but sophomore goalie
Anthony Sciola made seven saves, including four in the second half, to keep the score even. Once Solbakken gave the home team the edge, LIU withstood a flurry of shots from La Salle as the clock wound down, giving the Blackbirds their third-straight win.
Senior
Rasmus Hansen also had two shots on net for LIU, while Barone,
Romario Guscott, Koss and Daniel Quiros Hererro all had shots in the win.
Up next, the Blackbirds wrap up non-league play, taking on NJIT on the road Tuesday. LIU will travel across the Verrazano Bridge to Newark for the 3:30 p.m. contest, before opening up Northeast Conference action next weekend.
