Barrett and Tobie Join Women's Basketball Staff

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— LIU Brooklyn women's basketball head coach Stephanie Del Preore announced two additions to her staff on Friday. Anjalé Barrett and Kate Tobie join the Blackbirds for the 2017-18 season.

Barrett, a Bronx native joins the staff as an assistant coach after spending the last two seasons at the University of Maryland. She served as Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting Operations for the Terripans as the program captured the 2017 Big Ten championship and made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. She broke into the coaching ranks as an assistant coach for the College of New Rochelle.She joined Blue Angels after a two-year professional career in France. She was a 2012 third-round WNBA draft pick out of Maryland, finishing her four-year career with three Elite Eight appearances and sixth all-time in school history with 486 assists.

"We are thrilled to welcome Anjalé back home to New York and to our coaching staff at LIU," said Del Preore. "She brings tremendous knowledge of the game from her career at Maryland which will be a great asset to our program. Her city roots will have an immense impact on our recruiting efforts."

Tobie joins the staff as director of basketball operations after a finishing her four-year career at Montclair State University in 2018. She was a three-year captain for the Red Hawks earning All-NJAC first team and All-Met second team honors as a senior. Tobie finished second in NCAA DIII with 6.9 assists per game last year. She got her start in coaching with the New Jersey Avalanche AAU program last summer. Tobie will be pursuing her master's in business at LIU.

"We are excited to have Kate join our staff," said Del Preore. "She is a proven winner from her playing career at Montclair State, her tremendous basketball IQ and work ethic on and off the court will have a great presence on our program."

LIU opens the 2018-19 season on Tuesday, November 6 at Manhattan.
