FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team concludes the first weekend of Northeast Conference play at Sacred Heart on Monday night with a 6:00 p.m. tip-off from the William H. Pitt Center. 

NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • LIU suffered a 69-62 setback at Bryant on Saturday afternoon. The Blackbirds stormed back to tie the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 20-9 in the period but the home team would capitalize late in the fourth to take the win. 
  • Sophomore Jeydah Johnson led all scorers on Saturday with a career-high 28 points. Redshirt-sophomore Erykah Russell added eight points and team-high eight rebounds while freshman Ryan Weise dished out a career-high six assists to go along with a team-high four steals. 
  • Monday's matchup is the 39th matchup all-time between the Blackbirds and Pioneers. SHU holds a 23-15 advantage in the all-time series including the last seven meetings.
  • Sacred Heart comes into Monday's matchup 5-7 overall and 1-0 in NEC play after a 66-61 victory over CCSU yesterday. Katherine Haines led the Pioneers with 23 points and 10 boards while Erin Storck and Adrianne Hagood also scored in double figures. The Pioneers take care of the basketball, committing just 13.9 turnovers per game to lead the conference. SHU also ranks second in scoring defense surrendering just 62.6 points per game. 
  • Haines, a two-time NEC Player of the Week this season paces the team with 14.3 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. Hagood (11.3 ppg) and Storck (12.1 ppg) are also averaging double figures for SHU.
