BROOKLYN, N.Y.— Brandy Thomas of the LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team earned her fourth NEC Rookie of The Week for her standout play this past week. The first-year guard averaged 24.5 points per game and a league-high 16.5 rebounds per game while shooting 58.3% from the floor in a weekend split at the Steinberg Center.
She opened the weekend with a team-high 13 points and 14 rebounds in a 66-62 loss to against Wagner on Saturday. In the narrow loss to the Seahawks, Thomas registered 11 points and nine rebounds in the second half.
She followed that up with stellar Monday night performance, powering LIU past Mount 71-61 with her 10th double-double of the season. Thomas registered a career-high 36 points on 16-of-24 shooting along with 19 rebounds and four assists. Her 16 made field goals set a new program single-game record. Thomas' scoring outburst set a new NEC single-season high for the season and was the program's first 30-point performance in four seasons.
LIU makes the short trip down Fulton Street to take on borough rival St. Francis Brooklyn at the Pope Physical Education Center on Saturday, February 16 at 1:00 p.m.
