BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team makes the short trip down Fulton Street to take on local rival St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, February 16 at the Pope Physical Education Center. 

NOTES FROM THE NEST 

  • LIU used a stellar second half comeback to power past Mount St. Mary's 71-61 on Monday night. Freshman Brandy Thomas led the way with a career-high 36 points and 19 rebounds to give the Blackbirds their first conference win of the season. 
  • Thomas picked up her fourth NEC Rookie of The Week honor with her performance. The 16 made field goals by the rookie broke a program single-game record held by Dawn Coleman since 1996. Sophomore Jeydah Johnson contributed 16 points and freshman Ryan Weise added 11 points. Sophomore Ella Vaatanen led the charge defensively with a career-high three steals and four blocks. 
  • LIU holds the all-time series advantage over borough rival St. Francis at 51-29. Both teams have split the last four matchups in the series.
  • St. Francis Brooklyn comes into Saturday's game 13-10 overall and 7-4 in NEC play. The Terriers took the first meeting of the season with a 79-67 victory in the 26th annual Battle of Brooklyn matchup on January 21 at the Steinberg Center. LIU finished with four scorers on the day with sophomore Jeydah Johnson leading the way with 19 points. Jade Johnson finished with a game-high 33 points for the Terriers earning Most Outstanding Player honors.
  • The Terriers boast the NEC's leading offense averaging 74.1 points per game. St. Francis also leads the league in free throw percentage (73.6%), field goal percentage (43.7%) and three point percentage (40.7%). Jade Johnson ranks second in the league with 18.9 points per game. Amy O'Neill paces the conference with 8.2 assists per game.

The Blackbirds will play its next matchup against Sacred Heart on Monday, February 18 at the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn. Gates open for the 1:00 p.m. tip-off at noon and the first 150 LIU students in attendance will receive a free PopSocket.
