BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team fell to local rival St. Francis Brooklyn 87-64 on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Brandy Thomas led the Blackbirds with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Tia Montagne added 13 points and four assists and freshman Ryan Weise contributed 11 points.

LIU would connect on its first two shots from downtown to start the game as sophomore Jeydah Johnson gave the team the 6-4 with 7:24 to go in the quarter. St. Francis would regain the lead back shortly after but a corner three from freshman Tiya Misir tied the game up at 9-9 at the 6:17 mark. The Terriers responded with an 11-point swing to gain control of the quarter. LIU would close the quarter on a four-point run on a layup from Weise along with a pair of free throws from Thomas for a 26-18 St. Francis advantage.

The opening of the second quarter saw the Blackbirds continue with momentum with an 8-4 start on five points from Montagne and a three-pointer by Weise to make it a four-point game 30-26 with 7:19 to go. St. Francis would continue to hold its lead as the quarter wore on, extending it to 10 points with just under four minutes remaining. LIU would continue to chip away as Thomas recorded five of her eight points in the final minutes as the Terriers held a 44-36 lead at the half.

St. Francis would jump out of the half with a 8-2 stretch to build a 52-38 advantage, forcing an LIU timeout. The Terriers outscored the Blackbirds 13-10 the remainder of the quarter for a 65-49 lead into the final period. A strong final period by the league's leading scoring offense made way for a final score of 87-64.
