BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team welcomes Sacred Heart to downtown Brooklyn for a President's Day showdown at the Barclays Center.

The first 150 LIU students in attendance on Monday afternoon will receive a free LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds PopSocket.

  • LIU fell to local rival St. Francis Brooklyn 87-64 on Saturday afternoon at the Pope Physical Education Center. The Blackbirds connected on a season-high 10 three pointers against the Terriers.
  • Freshman Brandy Thomas led the team with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Tia Montagne tallied 13 points and four assists and freshman Ryan Weise added 11 points for LIU. Freshman Tiya Misir dished out a team-high five assists.
  • Monday's matchup is the 40th matchup all-time between the Blackbirds and Pioneers. SHU holds a 24-15 advantage in the all-time series including the last eight meetings. The Pioneers earned a 75-53 win back on January 7 in Fairfield, connecting on 11 triples at the Pitt Center
  • Sacred Heart comes into Monday's matchup 13-10 overall and second in the NEC with a 9-3 mark.  The Pioneers rank second in the NEC in scoring defense, surrendering just 61.5 points per game.
  • Katherine Haines, a five-time NEC Player of the Week this season paces the team with 15.9 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. She ranks in the top-five in the NEC in both categories. SHU also features three more scorers in their balanced attack as Adrianne Hagood (12.1 ppg), Candice Leatherwood (11.1 ppg) and Erin Storck (10.4 ppg) all average double figures on the year.

The Blackbirds travel to the NEC's Pennsylvania contingent next weekend. LIU takes on Saint Francis U first on Saturday, February 23 for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off in part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
