HAMDEN, Conn. – The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team scored a season-high eight goals Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to beat Quinnipiac, as the Bobcats took the win, 14-8. Junior
Bianca Santucci and sophomore
Elise Person led the Blackbirds (0-3) in the loss with two goals apiece.
The Bobcats (2-2) would get on the board first, scoring just over a minute into the game. But LIU answered quickly, as Person would score just 55 seconds later to even the score, 1-1. But the Bobcats would score the next five goals in quick succession before the Blackbirds could get back on the board. Sophomore
Amanda Masullo would score on a free position attempt to cut the lead to 6-2, and just a minute later, junior
Bianca Santucci scored a free position goal to make it 6-3. Santucci would add another before the half was up, off a pass from
Bridget Neiley, but Quinnipiac led at the halftime break, 9-4.
The Blackbirds would limit Quinnipiac's scoring in the second half, and doubled their scoring total. Freshman
Adriana Santucci had her first goal of the season at the 15-minute mark, picking up a rebound from Neiley's shot, which made it 11-5. Just over a minute later, senior
Carlie Robinson added to the total, scoring off a pass from
Bianca Santucci to make it 12-6.
Two minutes later,
Rachel Masullo got on the board, scoring her second goal of the year to cut the gap to 12-7. Person added her second goal of the game with seven minutes left, cutting QU's lead to 13-8, but it would be the last goal of the game for LIU, as the Bobcats took the win, 14-8. Sophomore keeper
