AMHERST, Mass. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team fell to the University of Massachusetts, 6-1 Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Blackbirds move 4-4 in dual matches this season.
 
The Minutemen swept LIU in the doubles matches, winning at No. 1, 7-5, at No. 2, 6-0, and in the No. 3 spot, 6-4.
UMass also had a strong showing in singles, winning five of the six singles matches. LIU's lone win came at No. 5 singles, where junior Ana Leonte had a straight set win over Anna Napadiy, 6-2, 6-3.
 
In the No. 1 singles spot, senior Anna Grigoryan fell to Janja Kovacevic, 6-4, 6-4. Junior Jessica Brzozowska dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Jodie Lawrence-Taylor at No. 2 singles, while Ruth Crawford beat Sasha Bollweg at No. 3, 6-0, 6-3. Junior Malin Leysen fell to Martina Bocchi at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4, while senior Clemence Krug had a 6-2, 7-5 decision, dropping the No. 6 singles match to Jasmine Tripathy.
 
Up next, the Blackbirds play two matches in the five boroughs, taking on Queens College, March 1, and traveling to face off against Columbia, March 9.
