BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team returns for its final home stand of the regular season at the Steinberg Wellness Center. The Blackbirds open the weekend with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off against CCSU on Saturday, March 2 in part of a doubleheader with the men's team. LIU will hold Senior Day prior to the game against the Blue Devils, honoring senior forward Destoni Willock.


NOTES FROM THE NEST
 
  • LIU dropped the final game of its Pennsylvania road swing on Monday, falling to Robert Morris 71-54. The Blackbirds were unable to thwart a strong second half from the league-leading Colonials at the North Athletic Complex. The recent strong shooting by LIU from downtown as held in check by the top-scoring defense in the NEC with just four three-pointers on Monday night.
  • Sophomore Jeydah Johnson paced the Blackbirds offense with scoring 12 of her team-high 17 points in the second half. Freshman Brandy Thomas registered her 12th double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Sophomore Tia Montagne also finished in double figures for LIU with 11 points on the night.
  • CCSU enters Saturday's matchup, 6-19 on the year and 3-12 in Northeast Conference play. The Blue Devils rank second in the conference in opposing three-point field goal percentage, holding opponents to 30.6% clip from downtown on the year.
  • Kiana Patterson leads the Blue Devils offense with 15.9 points per game, ranking sixth among NEC scorers. She also ranks fourth in the conference with 2.63 made three-point field goals per game. Ashley Berube leads the team on the defensive end, ranking third in the NEC with 1.88 blocked shots per game. She also leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per contest.
  • The Blackbirds hold a 21-17 lead in the all-time series over the Blue Devils. LIU has won three out of the last four meetings. CCSU held off LIU's second half comeback bid back on January 28 with a 63-57 win in New Britain. LIU finished with three scorers in double figures against the Blue Devils led by 16-points from sophomore Jeydah Johnson.
