QUEENS, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team notched a 5-2 win over local opponent Queens College Friday afternoon. The Blackbirds won the doubles point, and had four of the six singles wins to beat the Knights.
 
In doubles, LIU won all three matches. Senior Malin Leysen and junior Jessica Gogova had the first win of the day, beating their opponents in the No. 3 spot, 6-1. The LIU duo of Anna Grigoryan and Ana Leonte clinched the doubles point for LIU with their 7-5 win in the No.1 spot, and Sasha Bollweg and Jessica Brzozowska completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
 
In singles, LIU's losses came at Nos. 2 and 3. All the other matches were straight set wins for the Blackbirds. Grigoryan beat her opponent in the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-1, while senior Clemence Krug beat her opponent at No. 5, 6-4, 6-0. And Brzozowska clinched the win for LIU with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Luisa Auffarth at No. 2. Leonte earned the final win for the Blackbirds at No. 6, where she beat Line Sorsdahl Aasen, 6-3, 7-6.
 
Up next, LIU takes on local rival Columbia, Saturday March 9 at the Levitt Tennis Center in Inwood.
