NASHVILLE, TENN. -- The LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 1-2 on Sunday in the Music City Invitational in Nashville to finish in 18th place in a field of 29 teams. The Blackbirds topped rival St. Francis Brooklyn, but fell to Alabama-Birmingham twice on Sunday to go 4-9 in the three day tournament at the Smyrna Bowling Center, in their final event of the season.
The Blackbirds started the day in the best-of-seven baker ladder tournament against UAB, falling four games to one, with scores of 181-210, 213-188, 148-191, 172-185 and 177-182. But LIU rallied back to beat the Terriers, 4-1 as well (217-132, 146-167, 172-146, 184-182, 192-172) to get another chance at the Blazers. But the match ended up with the same result as earlier in the day, a 4-1 loss (137-203, 201-202, 199-214, 193-161, 193-221).
Individually for the Blackbirds, senior Kayla Johnson ended up in the top 50 in scoring with a 196.8 average, followed by sophomore Jennifer Roback (191.8) and junior Tyler Karpinecz (186.2) as LIU concludes the year at 56-53.
