BRONX, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team rallied back from an early deficit Friday afternoon to beat local rival Fordham, 4-3. The Blackbirds dropped the doubles point, but rallied to win four singles matches and take the win from the Rams.
 
Fordham jumped out to an early lead by winning the doubles point. The Rams had wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to clinch the point. Juniors Jessica Brzozowska and Sasha Bollweg had the lone doubles win, as they handily beat their opponents in the No. 2 spot, 6-1.
 
But in singles, the Blackbirds came battling back. Senior Anna Grigoryan notched the first win of the day for LIU, as she beat Arina Taluyenko in the No. 1 singles spot, 6-4, 6-2, to tie the match up, 1-1. Senior Clemence Krug gave LIU an edge with her straight set win at No. 6 singles, where she beat Genevieve Ouenville, 6-3, 6-1, to put LIU on top, 2-1. Fordham would come back to tie it up, 2-2, with a win in the No. 5 singles spot, but Brzozowska gave LIU an edge once more, with her win in the No. 2 singles spot over Maia Balce, 6-4. 6-2. But a straight set win by Fordham at No. 4 singles tied the match back up, 3-3, and the verdict came down to the No. 3 singles spot.
 
There, Bollweg was battling with a familiar face: Tatiana Grigoryan, sister of senior Anna Grigoryan. After Tatiana Grigoryan won the first set, 6-4, Bollweg battled back to tie it up with a 6-4 win in the second set. The duo went to a decisive third set with the match on the line, and it was Bollweg who came out on top. The junior won the third set, 6-3, clinching the match win for LIU in the process.
 
Up next, the Blackbirds (7-7) travel to take on Quinnipiac, Sunday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m .
