BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team had one of their stronger offensive performances of the 2019 season Tuesday morning at Bethpage Stadium, but the Blackbirds couldn't withstand the VCU Rams, who took the win, 21-12. Sophomore Amanda Masullo led LIU with five goals.

After reigning NEC Rookie of the Week Isabelle Peng scored three and a half minutes into the game to get things rolling, Virginia Commonwealth would jump out to a 6-1 lead. Bianca Santucci would get the Blackbirds back on the board, when she scored to make it 6-2 with 11 minutes left in the half. VCU added one more goal, before Santucci and Masullo would score back-to-back goals to close the gap to 7-4. But the Rams added two more goals in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 9-4 lead into the break.

Five minutes into the second half, the Blackbirds would start to go on a scoring tear. Santucci and Masullo would score back to back goals again, cutting VCU's lead to 12-6, and then the Blackbirds would score three straight to come with five. Elise Person scored an unassisted goal, followed by Rachel Masullo scoring off a pass from Amanda Masullo. Amanda Masullo then scored again just a minute later, making it 14-9.

Over the final 13 minutes, though LIU would add three more goals from Rachel and Amanda Masullo, VCU added seven to their total, taking the win by a final score of 21-12.

Sophomore Amanda Masullo finished the game with five goals and an assist, along with five draw controls. Bianca Santucci had a hat trick for the Blackbirds, while Rachel Masullo had two goals, one assist and nine draw controls. Freshman Isabelle Peng had a goal and a team-high five ground balls.
