Women's Basketball Falls In Season Finale At FDU

HACKENSACK, N.J.— The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team fell to Fairleigh Dickinson University 68-49 to close out the 2018-19 season at the Rothman Center Thursday evening.

Freshman Brandy Thomas finished with a game-high 25 points and 14 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season to lead the Blackbirds. Sophomore Tia Montagne finished with 11 points for LIU.

The Knights got off to a strong start on their senior night with an eight point opening run in the first three minutes. The Blackbirds got on the board with back-to-back jumpers from Thomas just before the halfway point in the period. FDU closed the quarter on a 9-2 swing to take a 17-6 lead.

The second quarter opened with both teams trading baskets to start as Thomas recorded the Blackbirds first 10 points. The Knights locked down LIU on the offensive end with eight turnovers in the period while closing the frame on a 13-5 stretch for a 37-15 lead at the half.

Opening of the second half was the Knights start with the first three baskets of the half forcing an LIU timeout. The Blackbirds started to pick up play as the quarter wore on taking advantage of FDU foul trouble. LIU closed the quarter with a 15-8 favor over the final five minutes paced by eight points from Thomas. The Blackbirds went a perfect 11-11 from the charity stripe during that stretch as the game headed into fourth quarter with a 57-34 FDU lead.

FDU remained in control as the fourth quarter opened up, cashing in at the line in the first six minutes of the quarter. The Blackbirds closed the final four minutes of the season with a 10-4 swing led by five points from Montagne to bring the final score to 68-49.
