NEW YORK, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team had a strong doubles performance against the nationally-ranked Columbia Lions Saturday afternoon, but couldn't overcome the #35 team in the nation in singes, as the Lions took four quick wins to beat the Blackbirds, 4-1.

LIU had monster wins in doubles, taking two big decisions to clinch the early point. The duo of Malin Leysen and Jennifer Gogova beat their opponents in the No. 3 spot, 6-1 to put the Blackbirds ahead. And the No. 1 pair of Anna Grigoryan and Ana Leonte clinched the doubles point for LIU, as they beat their opponents in the top spot, 6-1. With the point clinched, the match at No. 2 doubles was suspended.

In singles, however, it was Columbia that would roll out the quick wins. The Lions would take wins at Nos. 1 through 4 singles in straight sets to beat the Blackbirds, and take the 4-1 win.

Up next, LIU will migrate south for spring break, heading to Florida to take on Lynn University, Wednesday, March 13, and Florida Atlantic, Thursday, March 14.
