WEST WINSOR, N.J. – The top-seeded LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team advanced to the 2019 Northeast Conference championship match Friday morning, beating #4 seed Sacred Heart, 4-0. It is the third straight season the Blackbirds have advanced to the title match, and the fifth time in the last six seasons.

In doubles, the Blackbirds had two wins in the top two spots, and were on their way to a sweep in all three when the point was clinched. At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Anna Grigoryan and Ana Leonte beat their Pioneer opponents, 6-2. And juniors Sasha Bollweg and Jessica Brzozowska made it LIU's point, when they beat their opponents in the No. 2 doubles spot, 6-3. Malin Leysen and Jennifer Gogova were up 5-3 when their match was called because the point had been determined.

In singles, three quick straight set wins gave LIU the victory. Senior Clemence Krug was dominant in the No. 6 singles spot, where she beat Adrianne Alfonso, 6-0, 6-0. Brzozowska only dropped one game in her win over Brianne Lauria at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1. And Leysen completed the sweep with her 6-2, 6-0 win over Lauren Santarsiero at No. 4 signles.

Grigoryan, Bollweg and Leonte had all won their first sets, and were up in the second when the match was called because the Blackbirds had won.

Up next, LIU takes part in the NEC Championship match, Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. The two-time defending NEC Champions will take #2 seed Fairleigh Dickinson.
