AUSTIN, Texas – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis season fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon to No. 9 Texas, 4-0. With the loss, the Blackbirds wrap up the 2019 season with a 14-8 overall record.
 
The host Longhorns took an early lead over LIU, winning the doubles point. Texas had a win at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, and the No. 68 nationally-ranked Turari sisters clinched the point with their 6-2 win in the No. 1 spot.
 
In singles, the home team had three wins to clinch the match at Nos. 3, 2 and 5 singles, both in straight 6-0, 6-0 sets. On the other three courts, the Blackbirds had made some strides, but the matches were stopped when the winning point was clinched. Senior Malin Leysen was the first to win a game for the Blackbirds at No. 4 singles, where she won games in both the first and second sets. And senior Clemence Krug had won a game in the first set, but was trailing in the second. Senior Anna Grigoryan had found her rhythm and was playing well in the second set. After dropping the first set, she was trailing No. 28 Bianca Turati just 3-2 in the second set when the match was called.
 
With the win, Texas advances to face Texas A&M in the second round of the tournament tomorrow. The Blackbirds finish the year with a 14-8 overall dual match record.
