2019-20 LIU Women's Basketball Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The Long Island University women's basketball team under the direction of first-year head coach Rene Haynes announced its 2019-20 schedule Wednesday afternoon. The upcoming campaign for the Sharks features 16 contests at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
LIU opens the season on Tuesday, November 5 with a matchup against Saint Peter's, facing off against the Peacocks for the third straight season. This marks seven non-conference games at the Steinberg Wellness Center on the Sharks docket. To close the opening week of the season, LIU will be travel to A-10 opponent URI at the Ryan Center on Thursday November 7 for the first road game of the season.
The Sharks return home for a pair of games against Fairfield (Nov. 13) and Cleveland State (Nov.16) the following week. LIU will then head out to Pennsylvania for a midweek matchup at Lafayette on Wednesday, November 20.
The opening month of the 2019-20 season closes with a pair of home games for the Sharks against a pair of local opponents. LIU welcomes Stony Brook to Brooklyn on Wednesday, November 27 followed by Hofstra on Saturday, November 30.
December features four contests for LIU, opening up the month with back-to-back road games at Army West Point (Dec. 4) and UMass Lowell (Dec. 8). LIU closes out the calendar year and non-conference play at home taking on Vermont (Dec. 21) and a matchup against North Carolina Central (Dec. 28) in part of a doubleheader at the Steinberg Center with the men's team.
The New Year and NEC competition starts on the road for the second straight season for LIU with a trip to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, January 4. The short road swing continues with a stroll down Fulton Street for a midweek meeting at St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday, January 8.
The Sharks open the home portion of the league schedule for a NEC weekend as FDU comes to town on Saturday, January 11 and a matchup against CCSU on Monday, January 13 closes out the first full weekend of conference games.
LIU will head out on the road the following weekend with a matchup at Bryant on Saturday, January 18 before a meeting with local foe Wagner on Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 20.
The Sharks return home to welcome the league's Pennsylvania contingent with reigning league champion Robert Morris coming to town on Saturday, January 25 for the lone matchup between both teams this season. Saint Francis U closes out the first month of conference play on Monday, January 27.
LIU starts off February with a back-to-back matchups against the NEC's newest member in Merrimack College. The Sharks will take on the Warriors in North Andover on Saturday, February 1 before returning to Brooklyn on Saturday, February 8.
The return matchup against the Warriors starts a four-game homestand for the Sharks. LIU will welcome Mount (Feb. 10) before taking on St. Francis Brooklyn (Feb. 15) and Sacred Heart (Feb. 17) the following weekend.
Two road contests follow in a Friday, Sunday weekend schedule starting at FDU (Feb. 21) before a trip out to Saint Francis U (Feb. 23). The Sharks close out the home portion of the schedule against Wagner (Feb. 29).
LIU ends the regular season slate with two games in the Nutmeg State with a trip to CCSU (March 2) before closing the regular season at Sacred Heart (March 5).
The 2020 NEC Women's Basketball tournament quarterfinal round will start on March 9, whiled the semifinals will take place on March 12 and the championship will be on March 15, with all three contests being hosted by the highest remaining seed.
