Courtney Civitano was promoted to head athletic trainer at LIU Brooklyn in 2015-16, after over a decade of dedication to the Blackbirds. She joined the department in 2006 as graduate assistant athletic trainer for two years, and was promoted to assistant athletic trainer prior to the 2008-09 season.
The Queens, N.Y., native works with LIU’s men’s basketball and bowling squads, tending to the teams’ daily injury prevention and treatment. She oversees the athletic training staff for all 21 of LIU's NCAA Division I sports, and is also responsible for maintaining health records for incoming and returning athletes to ensure that they are physically cleared for NCAA competition.
Civitano graduated from Sacred Heart in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training. From there she took a graduate assistant position at Long Island, where she worked with the Blackbirds’ softball, men’s soccer and cross country teams while completing her thesis, "Hamstring Flexibility & Sprint Performance with the Use of Continuous Ultrasound v. Moist Heat Pack."
Civitano received a Master of Science degree in athletic training from Long Island in 2008. She was also the recipient of the Clinical Excellence Award.
A member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Civitano is also a Board Certified Athletic Trainer. She currently resides in Queens, N.Y.
