Kristin Cannon joined the LIU Brooklyn women's soccer staff in 2017, joining newly hired head coach Eleri Earnshaw.
Cannon comes to Brooklyn after spending a season as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati. In her lone season at Cincy, Cannon helped the Bearcats to an 11-5-4 record and 4-3-2 mark in American Athletic Conference play, advancing to the AAC quarterfinals. Cannon's impact on the program was wide-ranging in a short period of time, working with the team in strategic, academic, and community capacities. Cincinnati student-athletes garnered dozens of team and individual awards, including First Team All-AAC, AAC All-Rookie, and NSCAA Team Academic honors.
Prior to Cincinnati, Cannon spent four years at Johnson State College (2012-16) where she served in multiple capacities, including women’s head coach, Assistant A.D. for Student-Athlete Development, Senior Women’s Administrator and a faculty member. On the pitch, Cannon’s Badgers twice reached the quarterfinals of the NAC tournament and, in 2013, saw her team earn the NSCAA Silver Award for Team Ethics and Sportsmanship. Off the field, her JSC student-athletes were well rounded academically as the Badgers won the 2014 GPA Cup for having the highest GPA of any JSC team on campus and four times earned NSCAA Team Academic awards.
Prior to her time at JSC, Cannon served as a graduate assistant and teaching fellow at Springfield College. With the Pride, Cannon helped the team to the NEWMAC regular season and conference tournament titles in 2010 before winning the regular season and taking runner-up honors in 2011. The Pride also advanced to the NCAA tournament twice during her tenure and also were ranked nationally in both campaigns.
Following her collegiate playing days, Cannon’s first coaching job came at her alma mater as Assumption’s assistant coach under Stafford, serving in the capacity from 2008-10. In her first year (April-June 2009), she was also tasked with the duties of interim head coach following Stafford’s departure to Central Michigan.
As a student-athlete, Cannon was a starting defender and midfielder during her time at Assumption and helped the Greyhounds to a pair of NCAA Division II Sweet 16 appearances. A two-time Northeast-10 Conference finalist, Cannon also served as a co-captain and was named the Reverend Desautels Memorial Award recipient, given annually at AC to the Premier Senior Female Student-Athlete.
With Cannon on the roster, the Greyhounds climbed the national rankings, reaching as high as No. 3 in 2005. She was twice honored with NE-10 First Team All-Conference accolades while also twice being selected to the NSCAA All-Region teams, once on the first team and once on the second team.
Cannon also has played in a pair of semi-professional leagues. She competed in the W-League and WPSL from 2003-12. She currently holds NSCAA National and Advanced National diplomas.
