Former assistant coach
Jan Griga was named the LIU Brooklyn head women's tennis coach in August of 2018. Griga, who spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant with the Blackbirds, takes the reins of the two-time defending Northeast Conference championship-winning program he helped build.
"We are pleased to announce this hire from within our own Blackbird family," Deputy Athletic Director
Margaret Alaimo said. "Ensuring continued success with this program was one of our highest priorities, and Jan has been an instrumental part in the LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team making back-to-back NCAA appearances. We look forward to the amazing strides this young team will continue to make moving forward, both in the Northeast Conference and nationwide, with Jan at the helm."
Prior to his time with the Blackbirds, Griga spent many years as an independent tennis coach running
Jan Griga Tennis, with clients in both New York and Florida, and working with a number of internationally ranked professional tennis players. He also served as the head tennis professional at The Club of Riverdale and McCarren Tennis Center in Brooklyn. He is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Licensed Coach.
"It is near impossible to convey just how thrilled and excited I am to be the new Head coach of the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds," Griga said. "I want to thank Athletic Director
Brad Cohen and Deputy Athletic Director
Margaret Alaimo for this opportunity. I am looking forward to a phenomenal season with a concrete goal of capturing a third-straight NEC Championship crown. "
Griga graduated from University of South Florida in 2009 with a degree in Economics.
