Matt Vogel, a native of Brooklyn, returned to his home borough as the Director of Basketball Operations on Derek Kellogg’s staff in 2017-18. Vogel, a two-time University of Massachusetts graduate, has spent nine years working on Coach Kellogg's staff since his graduation from UMass in 2009.

Over the previous eight seasons at UMass, Vogel  demonstrated his ability to balance a multitude of responsibilities. As the Minutemen’s video coordinator, he oversaw all film management for the men's and women's basketball programs simultaneously, including film exchange. In his last few yeaars at UMass, he  played a pivotal role working with the coaching staff to create scouting reports and highlights to facilitate team preparation and practice.

Also at UMass, Vogel supervised the student managers on a day-to-day basis and was the Director of the Derek Kellogg Basketball School for three years.

Outside of his collegiate work, Vogel coached alongside Adam Ginsburg on the Maccabi USA Junior Boys' Basketball Team staff, held in Israel in July 2017.

"Matt has done an outstanding job for both of my programs over the past eight years," Kellogg said. "Matt's organizational and multi-tasking abilities are, simply put, remarkable. His willingness to do everything it takes to get the job done is second-to-none. I was thrilled when he accepted the position of Director of Basketball Operations and came to Brooklyn to help bring LIU to the next level."

Vogel graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2009 with a Bachelor's of Science in Sport Management and a minor in Sociology. In 2012, he earned a Master's degree in Higher Education.
